The Myths of Finding Your Purpose

In this week’s podcast I read an exerpt of my new book “How To Find Your Purpose After 40: The Secret To Unlocking Your Unique Gift To The World“. The bit I read is something that really fascinates me and it’s that a lot of what we think “purpose” is, is wrong. Have a listen and see if you can relate to any of the myths that I also bought into before I started my whole adventure of working in the area of women over 40 – which is my purpose and passion.

I have to share an inside story – that shows one (probably of many) myths that I did not include in the book and that’s that living your purpose eventually gets easy. As I was reading and recording the excerpt I came upon a sentence that did not make any sense at all. This after the book’s been edited and I’ve worked on it for months. Thankfully, I’m adding some new bits to it before I officially launch the book so I’m in kind of a beta situation, but it still made me think “My God, does this ever end????!”

So, I made a note to make the correction and also to do a full read again in the next few days. But then I had to correct the mistake for the podcast so I continued on with the correction. Once I did that, I uploaded it all to my Garageband to edit and the thing just would not work. After a lot of frustration, I did some surfing around to see that the latest version of Garageband on new Macs (I just got a new computer) is no longer using the podcast editing tools. Sigh. So then I downloaded some other freebie editing software called Audacity that a lot of PC users use. It’s pretty PC for this Mac call so then I spent time going through online tutorials to try and teach myself how to do it. After about an hour of messing around, I finally said “F&*k it, I’m going back to Garageband and I’m going to work around.”

Success.

But it reminded me so much that this road of following purpose is the baseline – of feeling inspired and loving what we are doing – and then the atmospheric reality of having to continually learn how to do things that are out of our comfort zone, to do things that are not necessarily delivered on a silver platter.

So in this podcast, I learned something. I swore. I got frustrated. But I never wanted to give up. It wasn’t even an option. When you are living your purpose quitting is simply not part of the equation.

I have a new addition to my podcast and that’s the opportunity to help you with anything that’s on your mind. Need some advice about a midlife issues?
